what is a MPI or Multi Point Inspection

A  MPI, or Multi Point Inspection is much like getting a physical when visiting your Doctor's office.  It is an opportunity to ensure that all systems are operating  just as they should and to prevent other repairs that can occur when components are not replaced when they should be.

All vehicles are more complex than they use to be and it just takes one part to fail to cause you to have a bad day.  Beardmore performs a Multipoint inspection on each and every vehicle that they service to help prevent these types of bad days.

The inspection process is designed to look at all of the items that can illuminate problems in multiple systems.  This let's the Technician know if there may be items that will warrant a closer look.  As an example, the way that the tires are wearing can indicate a need for the vehicle to be aligned or if the tires need rotated.  It may even suggest challenges in the vehicle's suspension system.  As well, brake pads can show unusual wear or excessive wear that indicate that the vehicle may have some challenges in the braking system or may be running at a higher temperature than they should.

What do Technicians Look At During a MPI or Multi Point Inspection?

The inspection process usually takes about 10-15 minutes.  In that time the Technician is will look at measurements and the condition of key systems by inspecting:

Chassis components
Seat belts and restraints
Battery health
Exhaust components
Steering components
Air filters
Belts and hoses
Shocks and struts
Engine cooling
Drive axle, transmission, and engine
Fuel system
Windshield washer fluid
Power steering fluid
Coolant
Transmission fluid
Brake fluid

When the technician is performing the multi-point inspection they examine your vehicle for signs of wear and tear. Most inspection are color coded:
RED

The item/items inspected needs immediate attention and often means that a part needs to be replaced.  Addressing these challenges in a timely manner allows the vehicle to perform correctly and reduces future repair costs.
YELLOW

These are items that are starting to show some signs that repair is needed.  Depending on the length or duration between inspections, These items may need attention prior to your next service visit.  Consult your Beardmore Chevrolet Service Adviser to better understand the need.
GREEN

Good news!, These components are showing to be within the range of good for these particular parts.  This typically means that the components are wearing and working as designed and while they have some wear, there is nothing to be alarmed about.  .
Simply stated, a Multipoint inspection today, can save you thousands of dollars in repairs! Â
